Derek & The Dominos - Layla and other assorted Love Songs
There is a certain irony that one of the best (if not THE best) albums Eric Clapton ever made was released somewhat anonymously, under the moniker “Derek and the Dominos”. That formation only made one album - the incredible “Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs”. Clapton assembled a group of musicians mainly unknown at the time, plus a certain Duane Allman, another guitar legend. It was recorded in a haze of drugs and longing for the love of a woman who was inconveniently married to Clapton’s good friend George Harrison at the time. That combination led to an explosion of creativity and an album filled with an emotional urgency never before or after captured by Eric Clapton. An absolute masterpiece. - Manu
